Don St. Peter Winner of English Competition ![]() Don St, Peter, son of Mr. and Mrs. James St. Peter and a student at Sacred Heart High School has been cited as one of the outstanding high school students of English in the Country. He has been named a 1969 national winner in the annual Achievement Awards competition by the National Council of Teacher of English, according to Sister Annette Stumpff, English department chairman at Sacred Heart. After English teachers nominated him to represent his school in the contest, St. Peter submitted samples of his best writing, including an autobiographical sketch, completed two standardized examination on general English knowledge and skills and on literary awareness and wrote a one-hour impromptu essay. The nation's participating schools nominated almost 8,000 juniors for NCTE citations. Of that number only 872 were chosen. Winners and runners-up in the competition receive scrolls of recognition and the high school English departments receive certificates of merit, Sister Virginia Calmus, Sacred Heart principal said. Names of the top students are sent by the Council to every college and university admissions officers and English departments chairman in the country. St Peter attended Boys State, became a member of the National Honor Society as a sophomore and is lieutenant governor of Key Clubs in Montana. His English teachers at Sacred Heart have been Sister Annette and J.J. Cadlo. |
Homemaker of Tomorrow (from "The Cord" issued March, 1970) Patty Whitney, senior, was named the 1970 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow for SHHS. She scored highest on a test given to the home economics class in December. The Betty Crocker Homemaker test covered the areas of Family Relations, Spiritual and Moral Values, Child Care, Health and Safety. ![]() The engagement of Patricia Marie Whitney to Henry Brock has been announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William D, Whitney. Brock is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Brock, Shepherd. A May 30 wedding is planned. Miss Whitney is a senior at Sacred Hear High School and her fiancé is employed in Billings. ![]() |
